Articles

Entertaiment is any agreeable occupation of the mind; diversion; amusement: The clown at your child’s birthday party, a Broadway show or a stadium rock concert, all are forms of entertainment. From the Old French entretenir, meaning to support or hold together, entertainment evolved from a host’s hospitable provision for the needs and pleasure of guests, and later came to mean anything that diverts or amuses, including spiritual growth in forms of ceremony and celebration. Entertainment may also serve a more serious purpose, such as in satire and other means of intellectual growth. Children’s play is a form of entertainment that shapes their growing social and cognitive skills.
